The October Country

October is the perfect month to reread Ray Bradbury. When I read Bradbury, I always go through the same process. I begin quickly, thinking I will be able to move deftly through his prose, but soon find that I am lingering over every sentence. Constructing each scene in my imagination perfectly before moving on to the next description. Occasionally, after finishing a story, I will immediately go back and read it again. This is the case with ‘The October Country’. I was already familiar with a good portion of this book as it reprints many of the stories that are found in Dark Carnival, but others were new and deliciously macabre.
