The End of Oak Street – commentary by Neil Healy
I wish I liked The End of Oak Street more. It has everything I love in a movie; civilization in peril, monsters (pre-historic monsters no less) and everybody is in constant danger. What more could you want? Copulating dinosaurs? The problem was it wasn’t authentic, more a mix of ideas; Stranger Things, The Day of the Triffids, Jurassic Park. You get the feeling you’ve been here before.
The director, cast and crew did excellent work, but the cobbled script and far-fetched plot kinda killed it. Did you ever feel scared?
I do love the genre and category and at times I got the feeling l I was watching a Fifties monster movie. The attractive, suburban cast, about to be annihilated. Good Stuff.
My daughter was surprised that I wasn’t wild about it. She loved it, and felt the resemblance to Stranger Things was more of an homage than a duplication. She may be right. What do I know.
I love summer movies and this one is, no doubt, a hit.
